- fever dreams to scare you sober (27 March 2010: Larkspur D'Angelo)
Harlowe wanders to Whisper Beach and finds his distant relative, Larkspur. This marks the first time Harlowe speaks to anyone but his immediate family, of course—for some reason, Harlowe does not find Larkspur intimidating to speak to. Later, as the pair discover they're actually related, this makes sense to Harlowe in a strange way. Later still, Larkspur begins to explain about Khalif and the origins of the D'Angelo family; Harlowe accidentally asks “the wrong question” and ends up being turned away.
- and a season to sleep (28 March 2010*: Cerridwyn)
Harlowe meets fellow Phoenix Valley packmate Cerridwyn, who eventually prompts him to speak after some difficulty. Harlowe begins to learn a little about spirituality and different beliefs—he is completely perplexed by the idea that the lavender sprig given to him by Cerridwyn can exude energy, but he accepts it after a while.

Harlowe meets Delwyn Zazkex, another Phoenix Valley puppy who is just about two months younger than Harlowe. Harlowe does not find it too intimidating to speak to the other child, as they are roughly the same age (with Harlowe actually slightly older), and the pair get into some trouble—at first, Harlowe slips from the side of a boulder on the waterfall. Then, Delwyn is swept off of that same boulder by a surge of water, and the pair end up in a cave behind the waterfall.

Harlowe heads to Dahlia de Mai to try and find Larkspur again, as he's been doing for some time now since first meeting the man—instead, he finds King Chance, a Dahlian puppy roughly his own age. He has a little trouble speaking to King at first, but the determination to find his ‘uncle’ drives him to talk.
